Blizzard Cancels BlizzCon Event This Year.

Blizzard has made the decision to cancel this year’s BlizzCon, citing plans to showcase upcoming games through other means in the coming months. The company intends to share details on games like World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred expansion at events such as Gamescom. They also plan to hold various global, in-person events for Warcraft’s 30th anniversary that will be distinct from BlizzCon.

The cancellation of BlizzCon was a decision made by Blizzard, not Microsoft, who acquired the company last year. Blizzard states that they have explored different event formats in the past and that this isn’t the first time they have tried something new. Despite skipping BlizzCon this year, they promise to have exciting things to share in 2024 through live-streamed industry events and other experiences that capture the essence of the Blizzard community.

BlizzCon, which began in 2005, is an annual convention celebrating all things Blizzard. Last year’s show revealed details about World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within, and two other expansions to follow. While it’s disappointing that BlizzCon won’t be held this year, it’s a relief to know that the event will return in the future.
